The snowmeter below Kirketaket

At Vårseterhjellen (300 m - see map) above Bruhaugen, at the base of Steinberget/Kirketaket, there is now put up a snowmeter. Here it will be read off snow depth and temperature in unequal intervals through the winter 2011/2012. This can be good info for planning skitrips to Kirketaket and surrounding mountains.

1.00 -7.5 04 Feb 2012 10:15 Odd Hatlen: 10 cm. fresh snow on top of the crust, so it was not the best snow. But there was a delegation skiing to Kirketaket.
0.90 -5 03 Feb 2012 11:00 Isabel: Poor visibility. Lots of rocks in the upper section but got a lot of snow later in the day. Then certainly more than 90 cm after 11:00 hrs.
1.15 +2 15 Jan 2012 10:30 Odd Hatlen: There were some people in the mountains despite drizzle and fog in the morning. The snow was wet, and on the top of Skarven it was ice and snow.
1.15 0 13 Jan 2012 20:00 Eske Vangsgaard
0.90 -7 08 Jan 2012 10:00 Odd Hatlen
0.70 -8 05 Jan 2012 18:30 Eske Vangsgaard: Clear and cold, a lot of moonlight. Did not need a headlamp. Went over Steinberget down to Kavliheia. Some wind-packed snow in the heights, also in the lee sides. Great conditions in the woods.
0.50 +2 02 Jan 2012 11:30 Eske Vangsgaard: The fresh snow was a bit set but is still surprisingly dry and loose in the lee of the upper hights and down to about 400 metres, despite both wind and mild weather in recent days. Met only two others in the mountains today.
0.65 -4 31 Dec 2011 10:00

Eske Vangsgaard: Approximately 30 cm fresh snow. Still a bit stony at the top, but great conditions further down. Lots of skiers in the Isfjorden Mountains today.

0.70 0 19 Dec 2011 10:15 Odd Tokle Sæbø: Crustal and wet snow up to about 350m. Fine, dry and light snow up to Steinberget. Best snow in the North West side.
0.80 -8 08 Dec 2011 10:05 Odd Tokle Sæbø: Several people skiing eastwards from Loftskardsetra. Slightly more compact snow today. Still some (in)visible stones.
0.80 -1 07 Dec 2011 - Odd Tokle Sæbø: Kirketaket. Little and wind influenced snow all the way up to where I entered the south side of Kirketaket.  The snow was excellent for skiing, but some rocks down to the timberline. Good through the woods. Well prepared ski track from kavliheian and down.
0.85 -6 06 Dec 2011 10:15 Odd Tokle Sæbø: Galtåtind. Wind Influenced and little snow above the forest. Dry and fine powder in the woods without much sole.
0.85 -1 05 Dec 2011 19:00 Eske Vangsgaard: Finally the first real snowfall. Heavy snow!
